Where can I get a free COVID test in NYC? by Tess Braunstein
Free COVID-19 testing is provided by the NYC Department of Health at certain COVID Express sites, which are available by appointment only. Free COVID tests are offered there for all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status. NYC Health+Hospitals also offers free tests at their COVID testing sites. Along with physical testing sites, New Yorkers can also access testing at mobile locations around the five boroughs, and pick up free rapid tests for use at home. Additionally, as part of the “Test to Treat” program, there are now 30 new mobile units that provide both COVID testing and the antiviral Paxlovid to eligible patients. The NYC COVID-19 Test Site Finder shows which particular locations offer the different types of COVID tests and/or treatments. Additionally, vaccines and booster shots are readily available in NYC, and can be located using the NYC Vaccine Finder.
How can I get Paxlovid or Monoclonal Antibodies?
In addition to visiting NYC H+H mobile units that offer both testing and antiviral treatment, New Yorkers can call 212-COVID-19 (212-268-4319) to speak with a provider. Some local clinics and pharmacies also provide testing for COVID along with prescriptions for Paxlovid for those who are eligible, and can be found with the Test to Treat locator. New Yorkers who have tested positive for COVID, are experiencing symptoms, and who may not qualify for Paxlovid may instead qualify for Monoclonal Antibody treatments, and can use the NYC H+H ExpressCare screening tool to determine eligibility. They may also be able to use the ExpressCare Therapeutics Access Program to connect with a healthcare provider and receive a clinical assessment via telemedicine. New York State residents outside of NYC can also call the 888-TREAT-NY hotline as well for access to similar services.
